Introduction

The Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) is a government scheme aiming to stimulate regional
economic development and promote competitiveness in Southern Thailand. The Bio-based

industries and high-value agricultural processing industries particularly palm plantation and the

palm oil industries have played a significant role in driving the economic activities in Southern
Thailand. Palm plantation was among the key income earners in Southern Thailand’s economy

and had a strong impact on the socio-economic conditions of people in Southern Thailand.
