The Study of Vowels ㅐ[Ɛ] and ㅔ[e] Differentiations in


Korean Native Speakers by OpenSesame Program



Abstract

This research aims to study differentiations of the vowels ㅐ[Ɛ] and ㅔ[e]
by Korean native speakers by employing the OpenSesame program. In order to

obtain various data sets, the researcher selected 36 Korean male and female
participants of different ages and occupations. The findings reveal that there is
the problem of differentiating the vowels ㅐ[Ɛ] and ㅔ[e]. Korean native speakers
correctly differentiated the vowel ㅐ[Ɛ] at 53% and the vowel ㅔ[e] at 52%. These
findings will be employed in developing Korean teaching.
