Abstract

This study aims to investigate the return of the Conservatives in
restoring the Royal institution under the democratic ruling system from
the Wongwannakadi Journal. It is found that Thai society during the
Wongwannakadi Period (B.E. 2489-2495) was when the Conservatives
regained their power after losing the influence following the change in
government ruling system, B.E. 2475, until Field Marshal Plaek
Phibunsongkhram’s first term as the Prime Minister (B.E. 2481-2487).

The establishment of the Wongwannakadi Journal was not only aimed at
disseminating literary and literary criticism works written by Thai language
and literary experts in this period, but also attempted to restore the Royal
institution under the democratic ruling system by the Conservatives. As
evident in various published works, the Wongwannakadi Journal aimed to

disseminate royal duties, remarkable talents, and gracious royal activities
of the kings in the Chakri Dynasty to the public.

หลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 (พ.ศ. 2488) เป็นช่วงที่วงวรรณกรรมไทย

กลับมาคึกคักอีกครั้งหนึ่ง ปัจจัยส าคัญคือการยกเลิกนโยบายส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรม
และภาษาไทยของจอมพล ป. พิบูลสงคราม เมื่อด ารงต าแหน่งนายกรัฐมนตรีสมัยแรก
(2481–2487) นักเขียนและนักวิจารณ์มองว่านโยบายดังกล่าวได้ละเมิดสิทธิเสรีภาพ
ทางความคิดเห็นอย่างร้ายแรง กล่าวคือมีการก าหนดว่า “บทประพันธ์ที่จะตีพิมพ์
ได้ต้องถูกเซ็นเซ่อร์อย่างเข้มงวดเพื่อให้เป็นไปตามนโยบายของผู้น าประเทศ” (รื่นฤทัย

สัจจพันธุ์, 2532: 94) และเมื่อจอมพล ป. พ้นจากต าแหน่งนายกรัฐมนตรีส่งผลให้นโยบาย
ดังกล่าวถูกยกเลิกไปด้วย และการที่นโยบายดังกล่าวถูกยกเลิกได้ส่งผลให้
“นักเขียนที่เคยหยุดเขียนกลับมาเขียนอีกครั้งหนึ่ง นับได้ว่าความบีบคั้นและจ ากัด
เสรีภาพทางการเขียนได้ยุติลงแล้วระดับหนึ่ง” (ตรีศิลป์ บุญขจร, 2523: 243) นอกจากนี้
